Importance in the 19th century:
In the late 19th century, the US lead the world in steel production. Because of this, infrastructure was completely revolutionized. Many projects started utilizing steel instead of brick, iron, or wood. Buildings began getting taller and trains were changed because of steel rails. Many possibilities came of this great change, and at the center of it all, was Andrew Carnegie.
Importance today:
Today, more than 1.6 billion tons of steel are produced annually. It is one of the most commonly used metals in the world. Carnegie played an important leadership role in making this happen and the legacy is clear.
